It must be hard being a Muslim in France today (Jan 18, 2015), the day after “Allah is great” chanting gunmen killed 12 journalists and wounded another 11 in Paris.
It must be hard being a Muslim in Nigeria where Boko Haram have just wiped out an entire village.
It must be quite hard to be a Muslim in many parts of the world – the US included – where religious fanatics have beheaded, blown-up, maimed and murdered infidels and Muslims alike.
I am currently in Ethiopia where, apparently, early followers of Mohammed were given asylum. As a result Mohammed himself declared Ethiopia safe, immune from Jihad. Good for Ethiopia. Too bad for the rest of us.
What kind of religion espouses something like Jihad? For that matter, what kind of religion condemns a victim of rape to bear the child of her attacker? I think I would rather die at the hands of a Jihadist.
What kind of religion condones extremism in its name? Why do rational Muslims not condemn the radical elements of their faith? Why do they not shout loudly “This is not who we are”? Why do they not shut down the madrasas that promote violence in the name of Allah?
Why do Christians not speak out against those of their faith who feel that it is quite alright (God would approve) to murder doctors who perform abortions.
Its not OK to say that this terrorist attack, or that shooting, was the work of some rogue element within the religion.
If it was done in the name of God/Allah it is the responsibility of anyone who believes in God/Allah. You can’t say that it has nothing to do with you. You support the ideas which led to these extreme actions. You take the Bible/Koran to be the word of God/Allah, and therefore scripture. As a Muslim/Christian, you have enabled the violence.
You have not stood up and said that this is wrong, that this is not what you believe. Your silence has allowed others to shout – and to kill.
